For Umrah or Hajj you need two ways to carry things: a zipped travel wallet for the journey and the hotel, and a small pouch or card case for the Haram. In the Haram, carry only your phone with Nusuk on it, your ID, one bank card and a little cash; the crowds in tawaf and sa'i are dense, so the less you carry, the less you can lose.
Below is what to bring, how to choose a passport wallet for the trip, and how our 5 travel pieces compare in SAR. We're Emery, so every piece in the table is ours, and we say where each one falls short.
The short answer
- For the journey and the hotel: a zipped passport wallet that holds passports, cards, cash and printed bookings.
- For tawaf and sa'i: phone, ID or iqama, one card, a little cash, in a pouch or card case that closes or sits deep in a pocket.
- Coming from inside the Kingdom: your Umrah permit lives in the Nusuk app, so a charged phone matters more than paper.
- Holding the family's papers: look for 3 passport slots and a strap, like our Voyager Travel Folio.
- Delivery: free anywhere in Saudi Arabia, Makkah and Madinah included, in an estimated 2 to 5 business days, so order a week or more before you travel.
What will you actually need on you?
For the journey (airport, Haramain train, car, hotel check-in): - Passports and visas for everyone travelling from abroad. If you live in the Kingdom, your national ID or iqama. - Your Umrah permit in the Nusuk app, plus flight, train and hotel bookings saved on your phone and printed. - Your group's or agent's contact card. - Bank cards and some riyals for the first day. - A pen for forms.
In the Haram, Makkah or Madinah: - Your phone, charged, with Nusuk and your permits on it. In Madinah, a visit to the Rawdah also needs a permit booked in Nusuk. - Your ID or iqama, or your Nusuk card on Hajj. - One bank card and a small amount of cash. - Your hotel card, or its address saved on your phone.
Leave the rest in the hotel safe. If your group keeps your passport, keep a photo of its main page on your phone.
Example: A family of four from Riyadh drives to Makkah for Umrah. The father carries everyone's IDs and the booking printouts in one folio with 3 passport slots and a strap, and leaves it in the hotel safe before heading to the Haram with only his phone, ID, one card and some cash in a card case.
How do you choose a passport wallet for Umrah?
A zip beats a snap. In a crowd you hold the wallet close and open it often. A zip keeps passports and cash in even if the wallet is knocked or dropped; a magnetic flap is fine in the hotel, not in tawaf.
Size it to the group. One passport fits most travel wallets. If you carry papers for your parents, your wife or the children, look for 3 passport slots so the family's documents stay in one place.
A strap helps. A wrist strap keeps the wallet with you when your hands are busy at the check-in counter or the security belt.
Keep it light. You'll walk a lot between the hotel and the Haram. A wallet of about 150 g won't drag down a thobe pocket or a hizam.
RFID is a bonus, not the reason to buy. It stops cards and e-passports being read wirelessly at close range. A wallet that closes properly matters more.
Watch out: the money belts and neck pouches that rank for "محفظة عمرة" on Google and in Instagram posts are fabric, worn under clothing. They're cheap and hidden, but they show sweat, and some pilgrims find a hard zip against the skin uncomfortable on a long walk. Leather in a deep pocket is the other option; choose by how you carry, not by price alone.

Voyager Travel Wallet: one or two travellers
The Voyager Travel Wallet takes 2 passports, 6 cards and cash, with a slip pocket on the back for a boarding pass. A YKK zip runs all the way round, so nothing slides out in a crowd. It measures 18.5 × 12 × 2 cm and weighs about 150 g. Cowhide outside, soft goat leather inside. Where it falls short: 2 passports only, and there's no strap.
Voyager Travel Folio: the whole family's papers
The Voyager Travel Folio takes 3 passports, 6 cards and 2 flat pockets for printouts, plus a zipped compartment for cash and an outside slit pocket. The attached strap keeps it on your wrist through security. Where it falls short: the zip closes the cash compartment, not the whole folio, so keep it in a bag in a crowd.
Voyager Travel Pouch: phone and passport, nothing else
The Voyager Travel Pouch fits a phone, a passport and a few documents, with an inside zip pocket and a slit pocket. Carry it as a clutch or clip on the wrist strap; many women prefer it to a full bag on the day. Where it falls short: no RFID and no card slots.
Alden RFID Card Case and Nina Pouch: for the Haram
For tawaf and sa'i, carry as little as you can. The Alden RFID Card Case holds 5 cards and folded notes in its central pocket and slips into a hizam or an inside pocket. The Nina Pouch zips shut around cash, coins and keys, handy if you give sadaqah along the way.
Tip: in ihram, most scholars allow men to wear a hizam (a belt or money pouch) for money and papers. If you're unsure, ask your group's scholar before you travel.
All of them: free delivery anywhere in Saudi Arabia, an estimated 2 to 5 business days to Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Makkah, Madinah and the rest of the Kingdom, 4 payments with Tabby or Tamara, a lifetime warranty on manufacturing defects, and 100 days to return or exchange. Looking after leather in Makkah and Madinah
- Heat and sweat are the main risks. If a wallet has been against your body all day, empty it and let it air overnight, away from the AC vent.
- Wipe dust off with a dry, soft cloth.
- Don't leave leather in a parked car or on a sunny windowsill.
- Once home, treat it with a neutral, unscented conditioner. It doesn't need it during the trip.
Check before you buy: it zips shut (or sits deep in a pocket); it holds as many passports or IDs as you'll carry; there's a slot for your bank card; it fits a thobe pocket, an abaya pocket or a hizam; and it arrives before you leave, so check the delivery estimate against your travel date.

Quick answers
What's the best wallet for Umrah? A zipped passport wallet for the journey and the hotel, and a small card case or pouch for the Haram. Carrying less during tawaf matters more than which wallet you pick.
Can I carry a wallet in ihram? Yes. Carrying a wallet or bag doesn't break ihram, and most scholars allow men a hizam. If you're unsure, ask your group's scholar.
Should I take my passport into the Haram? Usually not. Leave it in the hotel safe, or with your group if they hold passports, and carry your ID or Nusuk card and a photo of the passport on your phone.
Is RFID protection necessary for Hajj or Umrah? It's a small extra layer, not essential. A wallet that zips shut and stays close to you does more for your cards and cash.
How long does delivery take before my Umrah? An estimated 2 to 5 business days anywhere in Saudi Arabia, free, including Makkah and Madinah. Order a week or more before you travel.
