Leather: what each brand tells you
The Alden is vegetable-tanned full-grain leather from LWG-certified tanneries, and it's lined in leather too. Full-grain is the top layer of the hide with its natural surface left on. It's the strongest grade, and it softens and darkens with use instead of peeling. For a pebbled finish, the Alden in chèvre is the same wallet in goat leather.
Jafferjees describes the Dresden as a "handcrafted RFID wallet" and doesn't say which leather grade, tanning or lining it uses. If that matters to you, ask in store. Our guide to full-grain leather explains how the grades differ.
Cards and layout
The Alden holds 8 to 12 cards, with one cash compartment and two flat pockets. Jafferjees lists one main cash compartment and two open slots for extra cards, and closes the wallet with a button, which keeps it shut in a bag. It doesn't give a total card count, so check in store if you carry a lot of cards.
Personalisation and stores
This is where Jafferjees is ahead. You can add initials in gold, silver or a blind emboss, inside or outside the wallet, which makes it an easy gift. Emery doesn't offer personalisation. Jafferjees also has stores in Dubai and Sharjah. Emery sells online only, with free delivery in 1–3 days in the UAE.
Returns and warranty
This is where the difference is biggest. Jafferjees' UAE terms say they "will not refund or exchange any online sales under any circumstances", and personalised items can't be returned at all. We couldn't find a warranty on their UAE site. Emery gives 100 days to return the Alden and a lifetime warranty on it.
If you're buying online, or buying a gift and aren't sure it's right, that matters.
